Bhumyamalaki protects the liver from toxic effects, including that of alcohol and is a powerful Nitric Oxide- quenching agent. The hepatoprotective effect is associated with anti-oxidant activity and is useful in hepato-biliary disorders.
Bhumyamalaki increases the hepatic cell function & decreases the viral antigen level. By its inhibitory effect on hepatitis-B viral genetic replication, helps to reduce HbsAg antigen. It improves glucose tolerance & helps to restore pancreatic tissue architecture.
By inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis, enhanced catabolism of LDL, increased faecal bile acid excretion & activation of LCAT and lipases, it helps in lipid-lowering activity. It normalizes cholesterol biosynthesis, increases receptor-mediated LDL catabolism.
